Dino-mania!

pre-k to grade 2

the program:

Get ready for a jam-packed hour of extreme dinosaur fun! Geologist Laura MacNeil will come to your classroom and divulge some secrets held by paleontologists, including what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur and how they figure out if they are carnivores or herbivores.

The program includes three interactive activities that act as the students’ “tests” to becoming Junior Paleontologists:

1)      “IS THIS CREATURE A DINOSAUR?”

Students are shown pictures of different animals and they must vote on whether or not it’s a  dinosaur.

2)      “FEED THE HUNGRY DINOSAURS”

Students first investigate some dinosaur tooth and toe replicas that show the differences between carnivores and herbivores. Each student will then get a piece of plastic food and come up one at a time to feed one of two dinosaur puppets!

3)      “CAN YOU FIND FOSSILS?” Students will first pass around some real 300-million-year-old PEI fossils then get into groups of 4-6 to look through bins of rocks and fossils to see what they can find.

Students will become Junior Paleontologists by the end of the program and receive certificates to show their friends and family, along with a souvenir sticker and colouring page!
