Prehistoric p.e.i.

grades 1 to 6

the program:

Geologist Laura MacNeil will come to your classroom to talk about all things prehistoric! Our program will start off with discussing the five things that make a dinosaur and what makes them different from other creatures that lived in the ancient past. We will end this section with a fun activity where students will be shown prehistoric creatures for them to guess if they are a dinosaur or not!

We will then travel back in time 300 million years to the Permian Period and learn about the environments, plants, and animals that existed on Prince Edward Island 60 million years before dinosaurs. Students get hands-on with real PEI fossils and try their eye at identifying fossilized PEI wood through a matrix sorting activity.

Each Prehistoric PEI program is tailored to your class’s age group for maximum engagement, and fun!

Each student will receive sticker and colouring page souvenirs to continue their curiosity of PEI’s prehistoric past beyond the classroom.

After participating in this program students will be able to identify PEI fossils any time they walk our province’s shorelines!

Can be delivered in the classroom or outside on school grounds. Technology not required.
